Ivy League SAT Score Chart

There is no shared Ivy League minimum SAT score. Published middle-50% ranges describe previous admitted or enrolled score-submitters. Compare the named cohort and the current testing policy for each school; do not treat a 75th percentile as an admission cutoff.

Published ranges, with the students they describe

These primary-source figures were checked October 2, 2026. They cover different years and populations, so this is a reference chart, not a ranked comparison of selectivity. CDS rows describe enrolled students who submitted scores; Brown’s profile describes admitted students.

Harvard’s section rows are not a total range

The Harvard source used here leaves the SAT total percentile fields blank. Adding and would not establish a total 25th–75th percentile range: the students at each section boundary can be different people. Keep the reported section values as section values.

More generally, an older Scorecard snapshot or an undated search result should not replace a newer named cohort without telling you which one it represents.

Testing policy for applications in 2026–27

Brown, Cornell, Harvard, Penn and Yale require SAT or ACT results under their current first-year policies, subject to the stated exceptions or waivers. Dartmouth requires testing; U.S.-school applicants use SAT or ACT, while students attending school outside the U.S. have additional approved alternatives.

Columbia and Princeton remain test optional for the 2026–27 application cycle, for entry in Fall 2027. Both have announced required testing beginning with the 2027–28 cycle, for Fall 2028 entry. Yale’s current rule requires ACT or SAT; its earlier AP/IB alternative policy is not the current rule.

What is the minimum SAT for an Ivy League school?

There is no league-wide minimum. Harvard, Brown and Penn explicitly say they do not set a minimum or cutoff in the cited policies. A historical 25th percentile is not the lowest admitted score; a 75th percentile is not a “safe” score.

For example, 1500 sits within several total ranges above. That comparison supplies score context, not a probability of admission. Read required-testing instructions even when your score is below the range.

A useful target and retake check

Record the schools on your actual list, your section split, current testing policies and the latest accepted test dates. If a retake has a specific purpose, choose the skill errors that could change the score and check them on fresh timed practice.

Aiming toward a school’s upper range can be a personal planning choice. It must not be presented as the school’s requirement or a guarantee, and it should not take unlimited time away from the rest of the application.

FAQs

Is 1550 the minimum SAT for the Ivy League?

No. The eight schools do not share a cutoff, and published percentile ranges are not minimums.

Can I apply test optional to every Ivy in 2026–27?

No. Columbia and Princeton remain optional for that cycle, while the other cited policies require testing with their specific exceptions or alternatives.

Why is Harvard shown with section scores instead of a total?

The cited 2024–25 CDS reports section percentiles but leaves the total percentile fields blank. Summing section endpoints would invent an unsupported total range.
