SAT vs CUET: subjects, admission routes, and preparation

Choose SAT or CUET from the program's admission requirements, not a claim that one is easier. SAT tests Reading and Writing and Math. CUET-UG subject choices depend on the university and course you apply to; an SAT score does not replace required CUET papers.

The subject comparison that matters

Use the current CUET-UG bulletin together with each university's course eligibility. A commerce student may need domain papers that SAT never tests; a science course may require specific subject combinations. There is no single CUET subject package to compare with SAT.

SAT Math is still compulsory for a total score

A humanities or commerce applicant cannot replace SAT Math with an essay or a subject of their choice. If you have not studied a topic recently, diagnose the gap first. School marks in an unrelated subject do not answer whether you can solve timed algebra questions.

Overlap can help with reading and some quantitative work, but review the actual question formats separately. Do not use CUET domain revision as your only SAT practice, or SAT grammar drills as your whole CUET preparation.

Make a course-by-course requirements sheet

Use columns for university, course, school prerequisites, entrance papers, application portal, deadline, and score reporting. Registering for an entrance exam is not necessarily the university's full application; complete each required admission or counseling step.

For private universities, verify whether SAT is optional, an alternative, or irrelevant to the program. Ashoka's current policy is an example where optional external scores coexist with mandatory assessments.

Check difficulty with sample questions

Solve a timed SAT module and a current official CUET sample for each required paper. Record missing knowledge, interpretation errors, and unfinished questions separately. Compare the work still needed for your actual combination rather than comparing a total SAT to somebody else's easiest CUET paper.

Fees and the INR charge

The base international SAT charge is US $111: $68 registration plus $43 international fee. College Board quotes USD; your card's conversion and foreign-transaction charges determine the INR amount. Do not treat a converted estimate as the checkout price.

Late registration adds $38, so the base late total is $149. A center change costs $34. A date change requires canceling and registering again; canceling costs $34 by the change deadline or $44 until 11:59 p.m. ET on the Thursday before test day. Review the official fee schedule and the actual checkout before paying. Classes, transport, and extra score reports are separate expenses.

College Board adds a $24 test center fee only at the centers on its published list. On October 5, 2026, that August 2026–June 2027 list named centers in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan, and none in India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, or Kuwait.

Questions before you decide

Is CUET easier than SAT for commerce students?

There is no single comparison. CUET depends on the required subject combination; SAT includes Math and English but no dedicated accountancy or business paper.

Can SAT replace CUET for a course that requires CUET?

No. Follow the program's published route and required papers. A different university may have a separate SAT option, but that does not change this course's rule.
