Current admissions guidance for The College of New Jersey

SAT/ACT policy

Most TCNJ first-year applicants may choose whether to submit scores through the 2026–27 admissions cycle. Nursing and seven-year medical programs require official SAT or ACT results. TCNJ superscores SAT and ACT results across dates.

Application deadlines

Early Decision and Early Action applications are due November 1, with supporting documents due November 15. Regular Decision is due February 1, with documents due February 15. Seven-year programs have separate deadlines; medical and optometry applications are due November 1.

How to use your SAT score

  • Start with the intended program. A Nursing applicant cannot use the general test-optional choice to omit a required SAT or ACT score.
  • An Engineering applicant with at least 630 SAT Math can use the published calculus-placement route. That section score is a placement threshold, not an admission cutoff.
  • For a general test-optional application, judge scores alongside the high school transcript. TCNJ’s historical range and acceptance rate do not estimate your individual chances.

TCNJ’s acceptance rate and SAT figures need a date

TCNJ’s 2024–25 institutional profile lists 12,766 first-year applications and 7,952 acceptances for fall 2024, a 62% accept ratio that matches the 62.3% on this page. Among first-time freshmen that fall, 39.2% submitted SAT scores; their means were 615 in Math and 618 in Reading and Writing.

The 1140–1340 range comes from the stored federal snapshot, imported April 2026. Its fields do not carry one shared reporting year, so it should not be relabeled as the fall 2027 class. A mean and a middle-50% range are different statistics; compare like measures.

The Engineering placement exception is useful

TCNJ strongly encourages Engineering applicants to submit scores for early math placement. Its published calculus threshold is 630 SAT Math or 27 ACT Math.

Students without standardized scores can take placement testing, and students with scores may also test to improve placement. Decide about admission evidence and first-semester placement separately; a 630 Math score does not ensure Engineering admission.

TCNJ’s published SAT average is historical

TCNJ’s first-year page says admitted students have historically averaged 1265 on the SAT Math and Reading sections and 28 on the ACT. It is a historical average, not a middle-50% range or a cutoff.

Use the 1265 average only for context. Judge your own total against the program’s testing rule first, because Nursing and seven-year medical applicants must submit a score.
