The Perfect SAT Score (1600)
The highest SAT score is 1600: 800 Reading and Writing plus 800 Math. College Board reports it in the 99th+ SAT-user percentile, but that rounded percentile does not tell you an exact annual count of perfect scorers.
Perfect scaled score versus perfect raw performance
The SAT reports a scaled total between 400 and 1600, with two 200–800 section scores. A perfect reported score means both section scores are 800. It does not establish a universal number of correct answers.
Which questions are answered correctly matters to digital SAT scoring. College Board does not publish a fixed wrong-answer allowance for an 800. Answer every question as if it contributes and review every unresolved practice mistake.
How rare is a 1600?
The published SAT-user table places 1600 at 99th+. That establishes its position near the top of the reference distribution, not an exact fraction of students with precisely 1600.
Do not multiply the total number of annual test takers by a rounded percentile to produce a count of perfect scorers. The percentile combines a reference population, and a percentile threshold includes multiple scores. An exact annual count requires a specific cohort's score-frequency data.
A single sitting and a superscore are different records
A single-sitting 1600 earns both 800s on one administration. A 1600 superscore can combine an 800 in Reading and Writing from one sitting with an 800 in Math from another, when a college accepts that method.
Check the receiving college's policy. Do not claim a perfect single-sitting score when you mean a superscore, or assume every institution will combine sections.
Does 1600 guarantee admission?
No. A perfect SAT score is one part of an application. Grades, course choices and the rest of the application still matter, and the score cannot turn a published range into an admission probability.

Questions about this score benchmark
What is the perfect digital SAT score?
1600, made from 800 Reading and Writing and 800 Math.
How many people get a 1600 each year?
The rounded 99th+ percentile does not establish an exact annual count. Use a cohort-specific score-frequency report if an exact count is available, rather than calculating it from a rounded percentile.
