How to Get a 1450 on the SAT
A 1450 SAT can be 720 Reading and Writing + 730 Math, or 650 + 800. To move beyond a plateau, identify the exact reason a plausible wrong answer survives your checking. There is no fixed number of misses that earns 1450.
1450 is at the 95th percentile of SAT takers and the 99th percentile nationally (all U.S. 11th and 12th graders). Source and comparison groups, checked October 5, 2026.
Build a review sheet that changes the next attempt
Use four columns: question skill, why your answer looked valid, the rule or evidence that rejects it, and your next check. 'Careless' is not enough detail to choose an action.
For example: 'Systems; entered the intersection's x-value; prompt requested y; reread the requested coordinate before entering'. For Reading and Writing: 'Inference; chose a stronger claim; passage says may, answer says always; match the strength of the claim to the text'. These are constructed examples, not student results.
| Miss | Repair | Verification |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong requested quantity | Underline what must be entered | Two new questions with different requested quantities |
| Unsupported inference | Match each claim to passage words | Explain why the tempting choice exceeds the evidence |
| Late-module guesses | Flag a stalled question and move | Fresh module with time spent recorded |
Use another method as a check
If algebra gives the intersection of and as , verify it in both equations or on the graph. If the question asks for , the answer is .
Choose the check that catches your error. Re-solving every question from the start can consume time without testing the vulnerable step.
When to move past 1450
Use the colleges or scholarship rules you actually care about to decide whether a higher score has value. A higher target is optional when your score already serves the application.
If you choose to continue, compare new timed modules with the review sheet. Raise difficulty when the repaired decision works in mixed questions, not merely after completing a hard set.
