Western Washington SAT Scores & Test-Optional Policy

Current admissions guidance for Western Washington University
Latest official update: The 1150–1390 range below comes from the historical federal snapshot, not a newly verified fall 2026 class. Western’s current first-year pages verify policy and application requirements; they do not establish a new SAT median.
SAT/ACT policy
Western considers SAT or ACT scores in holistic review if submitted, but does not require them. Applicants may send scores electronically or through their high school. Its current first-year advice explicitly allows either choice without an automatic advantage or disadvantage.
Application deadlines
For fall quarter, Early Action is due November 1 and Regular Decision January 31. January 31 is also the priority scholarship and financial-aid filing date. Other entry quarters use different timelines.
How to use your SAT score
- For a 1200 SAT, the historical range supplies score context; it does not decide whether Western will admit you. Use the current optional-score policy for the submission choice.
- Check the College Academic Distribution Requirements and senior schedule before booking an optional retake. Those course requirements remain part of first-year eligibility.
- Complete a fall application by January 31 for full merit-scholarship consideration. Do not assume withholding an optional SAT result means missing the scholarship deadline.

What SAT score does Western Washington require?
Western’s first-year advice says it will consider submitted scores, while leaving SAT and ACT optional. That is different from requiring a score in the historical 1150–1390 interval. The snapshot does not show the score of every student who enrolled without testing.
The 1270 range midpoint is not a measured median. If another profile gives a different number, first check the year, whether it describes admitted or enrolled students, and whether it includes only score submitters.
Check the course list and financial-aid date
Western’s minimum first-year standards include a 2.00 cumulative GPA and the College Academic Distribution Requirements. Its course list includes mathematics through Algebra II and a senior-year quantitative requirement; compare the full list with your transcript.
For fall applicants, January 31 serves three purposes: Regular Decision, priority scholarship consideration and priority financial-aid filing. Add the application and FAFSA or WASFA tasks separately so completing one does not hide the other.
Compare your SAT score

This falls within the historical range. Western says submission itself has no automatic advantage; choose based on the evidence the score adds.
This compares a score with a reported interval. It does not estimate admission chances, account for your section split, or determine scholarship eligibility.
