Current admissions guidance for SUNY Oneonta
Latest official update: Oneonta labels the 1130–1270 SAT and 25–30 ACT figures as its fall 2026 class profile, dated as of August 2026. Its separate SUNY system campus page still labels its figures as 2020 freshmen; those older figures are not a 2026 update.

Oneonta does not require SAT or ACT results for undergraduate admission, but considers scores if you choose to submit them. Its first-year page asks applicants who want scores considered to request official delivery from the high school or testing agency.
Application deadlines

How to use your SAT score
- For a 1200 SAT, use the current 1130–1270 class range as context. Do not substitute the SUNY campus directory’s explicitly dated 2020 range.
- If you apply without scores, use the transcript and required recommendation to document preparation. Optional testing does not remove the required coursework.
- Education applicants should verify the separate 3.0 GPA or top-30%-class-rank rule before spending time on an optional retake.

Why Oneonta’s optional-score range is incomplete
A test-optional class profile can describe only the scores reported, not the testing performance of students who did not submit. Oneonta does not present the 1130–1270 range as a minimum or publish a median in this profile.
The midpoint is 1200. Use that as an orientation within the interval, not an official average. Keep ACT’s 25–30 range separate rather than deriving an ACT score from the SAT endpoints.
Complete the right academic and program materials
Education applicants need at least a 3.0 GPA or a class rank in the top 30%. Art and Design BFA applicants need a portfolio. These are specific checks that an SAT total does not answer.
SUNY’s system-wide testing guidance also warns that selected programs or scholarships can have exceptions. Check the exact award or program instructions; the general test-optional statement is not a scholarship-eligibility promise.
