Current admissions guidance for Florida International University

SAT/ACT policy

FIU requires SAT, ACT and/or CLT scores from first-time-in-college applicants and treats them as one factor in the admission decision. Scores that arrive after the application deadline are not considered for admission or scholarships. Send official SAT scores through College Board, FIU code 5206.

Application deadlines

Applications open August 1 through the Common App. For Early Fall and Fall 2027, Early Action applications with documents are due November 2, 2026 (notification December 10). Regular Decision is due December 16, 2026 (notification January 21, 2027). The final deadline is March 2, 2027, with last decisions April 2, 2027. The deposit is due May 1, 2027.

How to use your SAT score

  • Choose the pathway before comparing scores. A 1200 SAT sits at the top of the Early Fall Direct range (1110–1200) and below the Fall Direct range (1250–1380).
  • Treat the profile as context rather than a cutoff. FIU also recalculates your high school GPA from core courses, and test scores are one factor in its decision.
  • Book the last test date early enough for official scores to reach FIU by the deadline for your term. Late scores are not used for admission or scholarship review.

FIU’s median SAT and range by pathway

FIU’s first-year pathways page publishes a lower value, a middle value and an upper value for each Fall 2026 admitted profile. Fall Direct, its most selective pathway, lists SAT 1250, 1320 and 1380 and ACT 27, 30 and 32. Early Fall Direct lists SAT 1110, 1150 and 1200 and ACT 22, 24 and 25.

The federal Scorecard range further down this page is 1070–1260. It describes a different reporting period and does not separate FIU’s entry pathways, so use the pathway table for the term you are applying to.

How FIU handles multiple test dates

For the ACT, FIU’s application page describes a composite super-score built from the best English, math and reading sections across test dates, and the ACT Science section is no longer required beginning with the 2025–26 application. Its FAQ says best individual sections from different SAT or ACT dates count when it reviews scholarships.

The FIU pages checked on October 5, 2026 do not state a separate SAT super-score rule for admission. If a retake would help only one section, confirm the rule with FIU admissions before planning around it.
