## SAT Scores for Business Schools

The SAT can satisfy testing requirements for undergraduate business admissions. It is not the usual exam for an MBA. For a bachelor’s program, check the business school’s entry route and policy before using the university’s SAT range.

### Undergraduate business or graduate business?

For a bachelor’s degree, the SAT or ACT may be required, optional or unused according to the institution. Graduate business admissions usually discuss the GMAT or GRE instead; the exact graduate program sets that policy. Do not use an undergraduate SAT chart for an MBA decision.

| Application | Testing question | Next step |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Undergraduate business degree | Does this college require or consider SAT/ACT? | Read the first-year admissions policy |
| Later admission to a business major | Are there college-course or transfer requirements? | Read the internal-entry rules |
| MBA or another graduate degree | Does this graduate program require GMAT/GRE or offer waivers? | Read its graduate testing policy |

### Verified undergraduate examples

Penn requires SAT or ACT results for the 2026–27 admissions cycle, with a hardship waiver process; its policy says there is no minimum score required to apply. That university policy covers undergraduate applicants, including those applying to Wharton.

Illinois’s published three-year profile lists Gies Business at 1440–1520 SAT for the middle half of admitted score-submitters. This is a school-specific example, not a 1440 minimum for business degrees elsewhere.

### Compare the program before the number

Find whether admission is directly to the business school, to a pre-business route or to the university with a later competitive application. Record the year and population of any range. Do not assume a university-wide range describes finance, economics or business analytics separately.

Then check scholarships or honors requirements. An optional university testing policy does not, by itself, settle every separate award or program rule.

### Practice the quantitative and verbal work your report identifies

On Math, use [ratios](https://1600.now/bank/math/skill/Ratios%2C%20rates%2C%20proportional%20relationships%2C%20and%20units), [percent change](https://1600.now/bank/math/skill/Percentages), functions and data interpretation drills when those are your actual gaps. On Reading and Writing, practice the grammar or evidence decisions your review identifies. Your business interest does not justify ignoring one SAT section.

For example, distinguish a 20% increase followed by a 20% decrease from a return to the original value: $100(1.2)(0.8)=96$. Explain the setup before calculating so the drill fixes the underlying reasoning.

For undergraduate business, SAT results can meet or support admissions requirements where the institution uses them. For an MBA, consult the graduate program’s GMAT/GRE policy.

#### Is 1400 a business-school minimum?

No. There is no national business-school SAT minimum. Published ranges and requirements belong to specific institutions and applicant groups.
