# SAT in India: registration, fees, dates, and preparation

---

Start with the university's testing policy, then choose an available SAT date and center in College Board registration. In India, the base international fee is US$111 before card conversion and extras. SAT is useful for specific admission routes; it does not replace every Indian entrance exam.

### First decide whether the SAT serves your college list

Write down the degrees and universities you want, then check each current testing policy. SAT, JEE, CUET, and school leaving examinations have different roles. A list of colleges that once accepted SAT is not enough to establish this year's program requirements.

For example, [Ashoka](https://www.ashoka.edu.in/undergraduate-international-admissions-process-key-policies/) lists optional external tests alongside mandatory assessments, while [UC Berkeley](https://admissions.berkeley.edu/apply-to-berkeley/first-year-applicants-uc-berkeley/first-year-policy-changes/) does not use SAT/ACT in admission. Neither fits a blanket 'all universities accept SAT' claim.

### How to register in India

Book through your own [College Board account](https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/registration/online-registration/registering). A school hosting the exam and a company selling SAT classes are different from the registration service. Paying for tuition does not reserve a test seat.

1. Check the university's last accepted testing date, then choose a sitting that fits it.
2. Use your legal name as it appears on the physical ID you will bring. Upload a photo meeting College Board's requirements.
3. Select your date and India in the center search. Compare the exact campus, address, and available seats during registration.
4. Choose the center, review the charge, and complete payment. Save the confirmed registration in My SAT.
5. Install Bluebook on your testing device. Complete exam setup when it opens before your sitting to obtain the admission ticket.

### Fees and the INR charge

The base international SAT charge is US $111: $68 registration plus $43 international fee. College Board quotes USD; your card's conversion and foreign-transaction charges determine the INR amount. Do not treat a converted estimate as the checkout price.

Late registration adds $38, so the base late total is $149. A center change costs $34. A date change requires canceling and registering again; canceling costs $34 by the change deadline or $44 until 11:59 p.m. ET on the Thursday before test day. Review the [official fee schedule](https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/registration/international-testing/fees) and the actual checkout before paying. Classes, transport, and extra score reports are separate expenses.

College Board adds a $24 test center fee only at the centers on its [published list](https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/digital/help-center/does-my-test-center-charge-additional-test-center-fee). On October 5, 2026, that August 2026–June 2027 list named centers in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan, and none in India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, or Kuwait.

### Check your ID before paying

For testing in India, College Board accepts a valid passport or Aadhaar PVC card; an Aadhaar letter must be the original government-issued hard copy. An e-Aadhaar printout or screenshot does not qualify. The [ID rules](https://satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/what-to-bring-do/id-requirements) also list the US Common Access Card exception.

Compare your account name with the document now. The admission ticket does not replace ID, and a phone image does not replace the original document.

### Choose the guide for the next decision

Use the center guide to compare locations, the date guide to plan deadlines, and the fee guide to budget. If you are deciding between systems, begin with SAT vs JEE or SAT vs CUET rather than buying a second course before checking the required exams.

For preparation, take a timed baseline and review the actual misses. Work on the weakest measured skills, then check them in fresh timed questions. A nationality or school board does not predict which section needs more time.

### Questions before you decide

#### How do I book the SAT in India?

Use your own College Board account, select the date and available center, upload the required photo, and complete payment. Verify your registration in My SAT.

#### What is the SAT fee in rupees?

College Board quotes the US$111 base international fee in USD; your card determines INR conversion and any fees. Check eligibility for India Scholars discounts before paying.

#### Can I use SAT instead of JEE or CUET?

Only follow an alternative if the exact program publishes it. SAT does not replace a required JEE or CUET route automatically.
