## How to Get a 1250 on the SAT

To target 1250, start with your present section split and assign the gap where practice shows room to improve. Valid examples include 620 Reading and Writing + 630 Math or 550 + 700. A balanced schedule is not required.

1250 is at the 80th percentile of SAT takers and the 86th percentile nationally (all U.S. 11th and 12th graders). [Source and comparison groups](https://research.collegeboard.org/reports/sat-suite/understanding-scores/sat), checked October 5, 2026.

### Choose between a new target and a plateau repair

If you are already stuck at 1250 with 550 Reading and Writing and 700 Math, a 1300 goal could be 600 / 700. That is a different project from raising 620 / 630, where both sections may have comparable gaps.

Look at three timed results rather than a single peak. Identify whether the lower section repeatedly loses the same skill or whether errors scatter late in each module. The first pattern suggests targeted instruction; the second needs a pacing check alongside content review.

### Make the drill narrower than the section

For Reading and Writing, do not label every miss 'reading'. A transitions set requires deciding the relationship between sentences. An inference set requires locating the passage evidence and rejecting a claim that goes beyond it. Practice those decisions separately.

For Math, suppose $y=4x-3$ and $y=x+6$. Equating the expressions gives $3x=9$, so $x=3$ and $y=9$. Substitute into both equations. If you entered 3 when asked for $y$, the practice priority is the requested quantity, not more systems instruction.

### Allocate a month from evidence

Try three sessions on the lower section for every one on the stronger section, then reassess after a week. This is a starting allocation, not an optimal ratio for everyone.

Each session should include an answer attempt, review of its reasoning, and a new question on the same skill. Finish the week with timed work to check transfer. If the stronger section slips or the lower section stops responding, change the allocation.

### Questions about 1250

#### What percentile is a 1250 SAT?

College Board's table, checked October 5, 2026, places 1250 at the 80th percentile of SAT takers (students who graduated in the past three school years) and the 86th percentile nationally, a model of all U.S. 11th and 12th graders.

#### How much should I study for 1250 in one month?

The useful amount depends on your baseline and available time. Choose a repeatable session length, review your misses, and compare fresh timed results weekly. There is no hours-to-1250 formula.
